One of the most important players in a roller hockey team is the goalie. However, this isn’t a role for the faint hearted among us. As being a roller hockey goalie is the one position where the chances of the opposition barrelling into you in order to score is much greater. So it is important that the person who is the goalie wears the right sort of equipment.
As well as wearing a pair of good quality roller hockey skates, then need a good helmet along with a good guard across the front. Plus as with all other players they need to make sure that they wear lots of protective gear also especially for your knees and ankles as a great deal of stress is being placed upon them as you move around to prevent the other team scoring.
When it comes to being a goalie for a roller hockey team even small people can take this position. What the team wants is a play who has quick reflexes and can move quickly in the space around the goal to help prevent the other team from scoring.
If you are the goalie for your team and would like to make sure that less goals are scored in the future there are certain things that you can do. Below we take a look at just what some of these are.
1. You need to be confident as a goalie but not so that others see you as arrogant. If you feel that you are completely invicible then there is a greater opportunity for you to make silly mistakes that in turn results in the other team scoring a goal.
2. When playing this sport it is important that you keep any negative emotions you may feel in check. They can have a detrimental affect on how well you play and if you become angry or mad at something that is happening elsewhere then of course you will lose focus on what you are meant to be doing. Again this slight lapse in concentration could result in the other team scoring.
3. Remember you need to be able to move quickly between the goals posts when playing this sport. So it is worth spending some time each day carrying out various exercises and stretches that will help to make your more supple and flexible. The more you are able to move your body in different ways the more chances you have of preventing the other team from scoring that all important goal.
